The short version

Your photos, videos and audio recordings stay on your phone. We have no server that receives them and no account system. What does leave the device is anonymous usage and crash information, plus the data that Google's advertising service needs in order to show ads in the free version.

What stays on your device

  • Photos, video clips and audio. Everything Live Camera captures is written to your device's own storage. Filters, cover-frame edits, cropping, GIF export and Motion Photo embedding all run on the phone. None of it is uploaded to us or to anyone else.
  • Your settings. Clip length, sound on or off, and similar preferences are stored locally.

What we collect

Usage analytics — Google Analytics for Firebase

We record anonymous events such as a photo being captured, a filter being applied or a screen being opened, so we can see which features are actually used. These events carry no name, email address or phone number and cannot identify you personally. Firebase also processes technical data such as device model, operating system version, country and a randomly generated app instance identifier.

Crash reports — Firebase Crashlytics

When the app crashes, a report is sent containing the error, a stack trace, the device model and the Android version. We use these to fix bugs. They contain no personal content and never include your photos.

Advertising — Google AdMob

The free version of Live Camera shows ads supplied by Google AdMob. To serve, measure and limit the frequency of those ads, AdMob processes:

  • your device's advertising identifier (Android Advertising ID);
  • approximate location derived from your IP address;
  • device and app information, and interactions with the ads themselves.

Depending on your region and your choices, these ads may be personalised, which means Google may use data collected across apps and websites to select them. Google's own explanation of how it uses this data is at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

Ads are not shown at all to users with an active premium subscription.

Purchases — Google Play Billing

Subscriptions are handled entirely by Google Play. We never see or store your card details. The app asks Google Play whether you currently hold an active subscription and stores only that yes-or-no answer on your device.

Permissions, and why they are asked for

  • Camera — to show the viewfinder and take photos and clips. There is no app without it.
  • Microphone — to record the audio that plays back with a Live Photo. Decline it, or turn sound off in Settings, and clips are recorded silently; everything else keeps working.
  • Photos and video access — to show your captures in the app's gallery and to save exports. The app reads only its own media folders.

You can withdraw any of these at any time in Android's Settings → Apps → Live Camera → Permissions.

Your choices

  • Opt out of personalised ads: Android Settings → Google → Ads, where you can also delete or reset your advertising ID.
  • Remove ads entirely: subscribe to premium in the app.
  • Stop analytics and crash reporting: uninstalling the app ends all collection.
  • Delete your data: your photos and clips are yours and live in your gallery — delete them there. To request deletion of analytics or crash data associated with your device, write to us at the address below.

Children

Live Camera is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has provided us with information, contact us and we will delete it.

Data retention

Analytics events and crash reports are retained by Google on our behalf for a limited period under Firebase's own retention settings, and are then deleted automatically. We hold no separate copy.

International transfers

The Google services described above may process data on servers outside your country, including in the United States, under Google's own contractual safeguards.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes materially, the date at the top of this page changes with it, and a notice appears in the app's next update.
